Sick...

Having a sick child I swear is one of the worst things in the world. Isaac started coming down with something Thursday evening. He's got a stuffy nose, he's sneezing and coughing. When he cries he sounds hoarse sometimes. My little guy as always been a good sleeper at night. He might not be sleeping through the night but when he does wake up he'll eat and go back to sleep right away. Thursday night he was up several times because he had snot in his nose and it'd wake him up. He'd try to suck his thumb or we'd give him his pacifier but couldn't suck on either very easily because then he couldn't breath. We must have cleaned out his nose 5 or 6 times. It was the first time since he's been born that I can honestly say he didn't sleep well.

He didn't have a fever (still doesn't) so I took him to daycare yesterday. He slept most of the day. They didn't say he was fussy or anything. So thats a plus I guess. Normally when I bring him home for the day I set him on his play mat and he kicks and plays. During this time I usually take care of his dirty diapers and get his bottles and our lunches ready for the following day. Sometimes I'll clean the kitchen or start dinner too. I'm glad it was Friday and that I didn't really need to do any of that stuff because this is all he wanted to do.

Mommy! Snuggle time with you always makes me feel better

Fine by me. I love snuggle time. He seems to to do better when he's at an angle like this. When Dan got home he snuggled Isaac a little. I fed him and he seemed to be feeling a little better so we let him play on his floor mat for a bit. We were all in bed by 9:30pm. Both Dan and I thought it'd be a good idea to have him sleep in the rock n play sleeper rather than his crib because we thought the angle would make him feel better. Funny thing is.... he cried because he wanted to be in his crib. I think he likes to stretch and kick his legs which he can't do in the RnP. He slept a little better last night than the night before but still not like normal. At one point Dan took him to the recliner and Isaac slept there for a little bit. Dan tried to snooze with no luck.

The worst part is the stuffy nose because Isaac hates hates haaaates when we have to clean it out. I think he'd be doing a lot better if we didn't have to do that. We've been using a bulby thing that we got from the hospital. Which to be honest... is a piece of crap when it comes to getting snot out. Boogers... its a little better but snot. Nope. Not so much. We'd like to get one of these but it might only be available online. Dan tried to find it at a few stores with no luck.

This is what he's doing right now. I am hoping he feels a little better later today. My co-workers are throwing me a baby shower and Isaac is suppose to come with me. I'll likely bring him and if he gets fussy then I'll have Dan come get him. But I know many of my co-workers are anxious to see and hold him.

Shhh! I got a party to go to later. I need my sleep!

Oh and guess who woke up with a sore throat and stuffy nose this morning? Nope not me. Dan. But I bet it's only a matter of time before I get it too. I've been sneezed and coughed on about a zillion times in the last day and a half. The hardest part is knowing that he just doesn't feel good and theres not really anything I can do about it other than clean out his nose and snuggle with him when he's upset.

  1. Poor Isaac! And poor mom and dad! That's gotta be hard to see your little one sick like that! I don't look forward to the day I have to take care of Molly when she's sick!

  2. You can get NoseFrida at Buy Buy Baby. I ordered mine off of Amazon because I hate leaving the house, but I know they had it in stock at my local BBB. And yes, it works 8 billionty times better than the bloody squeeze bulb. Hate that thing with fiery passion.

  3. Jana - Love the blog. I am sure you are doing all of this, but make sure you have a humidifier running in his room to help out. The other thing we do often is turn on a hot shower and close the bathroom door for awhile. Let the steam build up and then take him in there and just sit for awhile. It will help. The doctors always told me nasal saline drops, but I never noticed a difference with those. Good luck!
