I have limited time that I can run. Isaac is to little for the jogging stroller. So I can run really early in the morning or I can run in the early evenings. Because I haven't slept for more than 3 hours at at time in..... over two months theres no way I am getting up at 5am to run plus Isaac usually eats between 5am-7am. He's never consistent. Not yet anyway. In the evenings its the same as in the morning. Depends on when Isaac eats. Again. He's not consistent. I also need to coordinate running with making and eating dinner. There are many times that I could run in the evenings but most of the time I feel like spending time with Dan and Isaac.
So might be wondering... what about the workout DVD's you mentioned in a previous post. Yeah there's only so many times I can do those without getting bored. Plus with Isaac being awake a lot more during the day I have a short amount of time that I can actually do a workout and lets face it... many times I just want to be lazy. When he sleeps I either want to take a nap or sit on the couch with my feet up.
There is something that I could be doing more of... and thats taking Isaac for more stroller walks. He seems to like them. In fact he generally falls asleep in about 10 seconds. I will admit... there are no excuses for why I am not doing more of these. So thats my goal. More stroller walks, run and do other exercises when I feel up to it. In about a month or so I will have access to a treadmill (my parents gave me theres) and I think that might make things easier. Plus i'll be back to work and I think having a routine is going to make things easier too.
But guess what. Today I took Isaac on a stroller walk. We went four miles. Then this evening I thought... I want to run. Isaac just ate. Dan is home. I'm going. I laced up my shoes and went. It.was.amazing. It.was.wonderful. It was the first true runners high that i've had post pregnancy. I went four miles. When I was coming up on the last mile I could tell I was getting tired. So I decided to run as fast as I could for a minute then walk for 30 seconds then repeat. It was fun. My average pace for the whole run was about 11:30/mile. Not shabby because lately I am lucky if I get one run in a week. Plus I had walked 4 miles earlier in the day.
My last confession..... I hate to say this but.... I do not think I will be able to run a marathon this year. I know I had made this a goal for 2012 but realistically I do not think I can commit to the training right now. I would need to start training next month and I am no where near the mileage/week that I feel I need to be at to be able to properly train. I've decided that instead of running a marathon I'd like to attempt a PR in a half marathon instead. I know I will can train and be prepared for a half marathon in October. The PRing is going to be a challenge and I am up for it. I do have plans to hopefully run a marathon in January of 2013. There's one in Arizona I'd like to run. My brother lives there and its a great reason to visit. Plus then the cousins can hang out too. Yeah I forgot to tell you. They had their baby on April 18th. She's a cutie!
Do you have anything you'd like to confess?
I've gained 7lbs since my marathon got over, uhhh and that's just in a few short weeks. Pisses me off an totally depressing. I MUST go back to the WW basics, I have a huge goal I want to achieve in just a month and this extra few lbs will make it just that much more difficult. Cant be fast if I'm not fit :(
ReplyDeletePS: Your doing great, get out there and walk the weather is sooo wonderful this time of year.
Good job, Jana, getting out and doing it. Even SOMETHING is better than NOTHING. And you'll get back there when you get back there. :) Rather than worry about the marathon, do you have any smaller goals you are working towards? Either distance, or time, or frequency? That usually helps me.... one day at a time.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for your brother! You gotta do what you gotta do in regards to exercising! If you need a nap when Isaac is sleeping then nap! I think we all, myself included, have a little bit of over enthusiasm when making post pregnancy goals, but we have to go with the flow! Remind me of my own words in about 2-3 months when I'm complaining about the same thing!
ReplyDeleteI can only fit my runs in because I'm pumping instead of breastfeeding. I'm planning on a half in October too, so maybe we can keep each other accountable? I can't wait for December-ish when she's hopefully ready for the jogger!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad at all about not finding the time! I cannot imagine! I think the stroller walks is a great idea! That is awesome that Issac loves them! And so happy you got a run in AND felt great! :)
